[Nettime-nl] [ STEIM ] Clarence Barlow Farewell Event

Op zaterdag 21 oktober om 20:30 uur presenteert STEIM een  
afscheidsconcert van Clarence Barlow


Clarence Barlow, die in de afgelopen 16 jaren aan de afdelingen  
Compositie en Sonologie van het Konkinklijk Conservatorium in Den  
Haag verbonden was, zal nu, op zijn 60ste, zijn post verlaten om een  
oceaan over te steken en Professor and Head of Composition at the  
University of California, Santa Barbara (VS) te worden, zo’n
8 988 960 meters verwijderd van Den Haag volgens Google Earth.

Om dit luister bij te zetten hebben vrienden en vroegere studenten  
een kort stuk gemaakt. Op het Clarence Barlow Farewell Event zijn  
composities te horen van Gabriel Pareyón, Justin Christensen, Bernd  
Härpfer, Dganit Elyakim, Marko Ciciliani, Siegfried Koepf, Andres  
Solis, Alan Fabian, Mendel Hardeman, Carlos Iturralde, Ezequiel  
Menalled, Joanna Stepalska, Lucho Enriquez, Juan Sebastián Lach and  
Rikhardur Fridriksson. En vanzelfsprekend staan ook enkele van  
Clarence Barlow’s eigen stukken op het programma. Alle stukken zijn  
tapecomposities; het Clarence Barlow Farewell Event wordt dus een  
feestelijke luisteravond.

Saturday 21 of October at 20:30, STEIM will present a Farewell Event  
featuring Clarence Barlow


Clarence Barlow, who has taught Composition and Sonology at the Royal  
Conservatory The Hague for the past sixteen years, is, at age 60, now  
leaving this post to cross an ocean and a continent and taking up the  
position of Professor and Head of Composition at the University of  
California, Santa Barbara, approximately 8,988,960 metres away (being  
the distance between his former studio in The Hague and his new  
office in Santa Barbara, according to Google Earth).

To mark this event, some of his friends and former students have each  
written a short piece to also give him a hearty send-off. They are  
(in arbitrary alphabetical order) Gabriel Pareyón, Justin  
Christensen, Bernd Härpfer, Dganit Elyakim, Marko Ciciliani,  
Siegfried Koepf, Andres Solis, Alan Fabian, Mendel Hardeman, Carlos  
Iturralde, Ezequiel Menalled, Joanna Stepalska, Lucho Enriquez, Juan  
Sebastián Lach and Rikhardur Fridriksson. Some of Barlow's own pieces  
are also on the programme. All pieces are tape compositions; the  
Clarence Barlow Farewell Event will be a joyful listening event.
