1) OKNO opens season 07/08 in a new space.

A small but flexible space, with an accessible terrace for outdoor  
events, grants us the right setting for developing our upcoming  
projects.
From its initial mission on OKNO wants to bring interesting  
phenomena in contemporary and experimental media under the attention  
of a broad audience. In addition to that it wants to develop new ways  
for creating, exhibiting and disseminating art. Art is a pars-pro- 
toto for culture. OKNO considers it constructed and constructable,  
and in constant (ex)change.

2) network performance: I'm sitting under an antenna
   okno - sunday 28/10 from 15h to 16h

As part of the Radiophonic festival and the opening of the new space,  
OKNO presents I'm sitting under an antenna.
Four locations connect over the free wireless network Reseau Citoyen.  
They form a sonic link, streaming their sounds to one another,  
performing together on the rhythm of the network.
For OKNO, Isjtar researches virtual cities, that grow and pulse,  
perturbated by the other parts of the chain.
At Maison de la Creation Stéphanie Laforce and Bruno Devuyst  
improvise on sonorous objects for an electroacoustical performance.  
Their performance will only be available online.
At the old RTT building, a group of musicians holds a single tone for  
three days, 24 hours a day.
At the Brigitinnes, Givan Bela and Ivan Markoff mix and present the  
project in realtime. Concept and production by Annemie Maes, Olivier  
Meunier and David Kowalkowski.

3) peopledatabase slowscan transmission
   okno - sunday 28/10 from 15h to 19h

The peopledatabase is an online meeting place for artists,  
philosophers, musicians, writers and other interested participants.  
The archive, composed of hundreds of passport photographs, is used as  
a mirror. It provokes an answer given by the multiple collaborators.  
Initiated in 2000, it is considered as a growing social structure for  
cultural exchange.
For the Radiophonic festival, so-on/collective proposes a series of  
new readings out of the People Database. New York soundscapes create  
the background for the poems by the new york writer Kristin  
Prevallet. Her contributions are infiltrated by virusses  and as such  
the original texts and language will be slowly transformed.

The peopledatabase will be on display in slowscan–transmission-mode  
during the opening of the new OKNO space on sunday october 28th.  
Slowscan television is a picture transmission method which makes a  
picture visible for a few seconds. It’s used mainly by amateur radio  
operators to transmit and receive static pictures via radio. A  
realtime reading of the full database will link the slowscanned  
passport images to the online contributions,thus creating an onsite/ 
online experience.

4) screenbased concrete
	okno - sunday 28/10 from 15h to 19h

Screenbased Concrete is a technical experiment initiated by Pieter  
Heremans.
The properties of physical space get analysed due to a projected  
sequence of bit maps. This analysis of geometrical settings of  
objects is used to map projections on existing/real/build 3D  
structures and researches as such the evolution of surface textures  
towards a projected image. Reality is modelled into a new perception.

1) OKNO opent het seizoen 07/08 in een nieuwe ruimte

De verhuis naar een kleine maar flexibele ruimte, met ruim dakterras  
voor outdoor evenementen, biedt OKNO een gepaste habitat voor  
toekomstige projecten. OKNO stelt zich als doel interessante  
wendingen binnen de hedendaagse kunst en experimentele media voor een  
breed publiek naar buiten te brengen. Daarnaast ontwikkelt OKNO  
nieuwe methodes voor het creëren, tentoonstellen en verspreiden van  
mediakunst. Kunst is een pars-pro-toto voor cultuur. OKNO beschouwt  
beide als maakbaar en in voortdurende verandering.

2) netwerk-peformance: I'm sitting under an antenna
   okno - zondag 28/10 van 15u tot 16u

Als onderdeel van het Radiophonic-festival en voor de opening van de  
nieuwe ruimte, presenteert OKNO de connected performance "I'm sitting  
under an antenna."
Vier Brusselse lokaties zijn verbonden via het (gratis en vrije)  
draadloze netwerk Reseau Citoyen. Ze vormen een klankketting van  
uitgewisselde audiostreams, en performen live een Brusselse  
soundscape op het ritme van het netwerk.
In OKNO (Molenbeek) onderzoekt Isjtar de groei, evolutie en het  
pulseren van virtuele steden,  waarbij de klanken geïnfiltreerd  
worden door de andere schakels van de ketting.
In het 'Maison de la Creation' (Laken) improviseren Stephanie Laforce  
en Bruno Devuyst op resonerende objecten en electronica. Hun  
performance is enkel online te beluisteren.
In het oude RTT gebouw (l'écurie, Laken) houdt een groep musici 3  
dagen lang, de klok rond, één enkele toon aan.
Het resultaat van de geluidsketen wordt tijdens het Radiophonic  
festival (Brigittines, Brussel) live gemixt door Givan Bela en  
gepresenteerd door Ivan Markoff. Concept en productie: Olivier  
Meunier, Annemie Maes en David Kowalkowski.

3) PeopleDatabase: slowscan transmission mode
   okno - zondag 28/10 van 15u tot 19u

Het PeopleDatabase archief is een virtuele ontmoetingsruimte voor  
experimenten en uitwisseling, opgestart door Annemie Maes in 2000. In  
samenwerking met kunstenaars en andere geïnteresseerde participanten  
onderzoekt het verschillende manieren van artistieke samenwerking  
binnen onze cultuur. Het archief fungeert als een 'sociale spiegel'  
die opgebouwd is uit honderden pasfoto's. Deze triggert persoonlijke  
reacties van online participanten en hieruit groeit een collectief  
verhaal.
Voor het Radiophonic-festival herinterpreteert het so-on collectief  
een deel van de PeopleDatabase. Bijdragen van de New Yorkse  
schrijfster Kristin Prevallet worden geïnfiltreerd door virussen,  
waardoor de oorsprokelijk tekst langzaam getransformeerd wordt.

Tijdens de OKNO-opening wordt de PeopleDatabase voorgesteld in  
slowscan–transmission-mode. Slowscan is een visuele zendtechniek die  
gebruikt wordt door radio amateurs. Statische beelden worden  
doorgezonden via radio zenders en worden enkele seconden zichtbaar.  
De inhoud van de online database wordt in realtime gelinkt aan de  
slowscan-beelden, waardoor een onsite/online universum gecreëerd wordt.

4) Screenbased Concrete // Filmisch Beton / tryout : still image
   okno - zondag 28/10 van 15u tot 19u

Screenbased Concrete // Filmisch Betoneen is een technisch  
experiment, opgezet door Pieter Heremans.
De fysische ruimte wordt geanalyseerd d.m.v. de projectie van een  
sequentie bit-patronen.
Deze analyse van de geometrische opstelling van objecten wordt  
gebruikt om projecties af te stemmen op de bestaande gebouwde  
werkelijkheid en om de overgang van oppervlakte-texturen naar  
geprojecteerd beeld te onderzoeken.
